Hydro-Quebec is improving the efficiency of its distribution network. Within this framework it chose Gentec to manufacture 400 enclosures in order to control pole mounted capacitor banks.
Conceived by Gentec's R&D team, these new enclosures integrate an environmental oriented envelope with Hydro-Quebec high-quality standards.
Within CATVAR project framework, Hydro-Quebec also chose Gentec as a supplier of prototype enclosures for the remote reading of tensions and remote control of these capacitor banks with utmost precision. These two types of enclosures are also entirely conceived by Gentec.
These R&D efforts for new hi-technology products position Gentec as an important player in the automation of Hydro-Quebec distribution network.

Gentec POSTS BEST PERFORMANCE IN 50 years
Quebec City, June 1, 2009-The year 2009 is one to remember at Gentec. Not only did the Quebec company celebrate its 50th anniversary, it also enjoyed its best quarter in history with nearly $6.5 million in revenues, a 60% increase over last year. Gentec, a designer and custom manufacturer of electrical and electronic systems and components, also saw its workforce grow by 30% over the last year to now total more than 130 highly skilled employees.
The strong suit of the company, which is located in Quebec City's Colbert Industrial Park, is its ability to innovate and develop new products for new markets, year after year. The solutions developed or manufactured by Gentec are found in hydroelectric dams, metro lines, hotels, video games, and even artificial legs.
"We use cutting-edge equipment to manufacture components for many of Quebec's high-tech businesses," explained Gentec president Francis Giroux. "Moreover, Gentec is a strategic supplier to Hydro-Québec. Ever since we started, we have been developing and manufacturing equipment designed to ensure the reliability of Quebec's electrical network."
Gentec has stepped up its leadership in energy efficiency by launching product lines for commercial and institutional buildings. AmbianceTM and KameleonTM products offer integrated heating and lighting control for savings of up to 40% on energy costs.
50 years of innovation
Founded in 1959 by Théodore Wildi, professor emeritus of electrical engineering at Université Laval and member of the Order of Canada, Gentec has excelled at keeping its energy optimization expertise up-to-date.
"Mr. Wildi first created Gentec as part of his School of Industrial Electrical Engineering," said Giroux. "Gentec plans to market a load cycler designed to avoid peak loading in restaurants serviced by Quebec Power that use more than one hot water boiler. Our drive to develop solutions adapted to specific needs continues to distinguish the company, which today includes some twenty engineers."
The company's activities also led to the creation of Gentec Électro-Optique in 2000: starting out with 12 people, the team now includes some 40 technologists, engineers, and Ph.D.s working on the design and manufacture of laser beam measurement systems.
The Gentec Scholarship
Continuing in the footsteps of founder Théodore Wildi, Gentec is committed to supporting young people through its Gentec Scholarship, to be awarded to a Université Laval electrical engineering student each year for at least the next five years. Gentec is also involved in many networking projects with educational institutions.
